God Works Through Our Weakness
We struggle with being weak but it’s always in our weakness – not our strength – that God works. God is working in and through us at all times. He never leaves us on our own but is life for us at all times.
Romans 8:26–27 “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. Are you willing to be weak? You can’t experience the strength of God until you are willing to be weak. The Greek word translated, “help” refers to a person coming alongside another to take part of a heavy load and help him bear it. There are times when we don’t know how to pray and have a very heavy load. The Holy Spirit comes alongside and helps us shoulder the load. When we are seeking the restoration of the world and struggling with the weight of souls the Holy Spirit comes alongside us to help and shoulder our burden by pleading our case with God. There are unbelieving spouses of believers we need to be praying for and seeking the Holy Spirit to come along side them. You have a loved one who isn’t following Jesus? It is a burden, so let yourself be weak and trust in His strength.
For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, We don’t have the perspective of God; our understanding is limited. We do not know what we should ask of God. What is God’s will for us or others? This isn’t passivity; we are called to pray and groan. This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be actively praying. We are called to pray frequently and fervently. In prayer we are coming to Him – the sovereign ruler of all. We are to come to Him with our requests and intercessions.
but the Spirit himself intercedes for us As we come to God in prayer, earnestly seeking His will, the Spirit comes along side and makes intercession for us. He brings our needs before God even when we don’t know what they are or even when we pray about them unwisely. We know that Christ makes intercession for us at the right hand of God, and here the Spirit is making intercession within us: He knows what we need and Father’s will.
with groanings too deep for words. Paul says the Spirit intercedes on our behalf in a way that is totally beyond human comprehension. These are the groanings that are too deep for words. It does not mean that the Holy Spirit is unable to articulate his concerns.
And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, It is God the Father here Whois “searching the hearts.” Nothing is hidden from God, specially the mind of the Spirit. Think about this; God is the one who searches the heart. Why do we think we are hiding things from Him? He is not only all powerful but He is all knowing and shines His light in the darkest places of our hearts. If He knows our hearts He certainly knows the heart of the Spirit.
because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. We have seen many times that the believer has assurance in prayer as he seeks the will of God in the name of the Son. Here we see the Holy Spirit is making intercession to the Father according to the Father’s will. Now that’s Good News! You have the Holy Spirit of God making perfect intercession for you!
I hope you’re having an incredibly blessed week. I’m looking forward to seeing you Sunday and sharing more with you from Joshua 6.
You are loved!
