Set Free in Christ

Sometimes when we teach the grace of God people get the impression that we’re against the Law as though the Law is bad.  There is even a term called, “Antinomian” that’s used to target people who fully believe Paul’s message of grace and freedom from the Law.  Antinomian is a compound word.  “Anti” means to be against or instead of, “nomian” is the law.  So we are only antinomian in the sense we believe from the scripture there is a different way of living than under the Law.  The sinner needs the Law but while the Law can point out the sinners problem, it can do nothing to solve the problem.  The Law does a great job at showing us to be sinners but it doesn’t empower righteousness.  So instead of the Law we are called to live in relationship with the Spirit.  This is the only way to experience true freedom.
Romans 8:2 “For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.”
“Law” used here refers to a principle.  We were born under the law of sin but another law has come into affect that overrules the previous law.  Recently on one of my trips two laws were in effect in my life, the law of gravity and the law of aerodynamics.  The law of gravity was always in affect but as soon as the plane gained enough thrust a new higher law came into effect and we flew.  You and I were born under the law of sin and death and there was no getting out of it until a higher law came into effect, the law of the Spirit of life.  Believe what Jesus says is true; you are free from sin and death.  It is now only life in Jesus Christ; us in Him and He in us!  Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death!  Live only out of His life.  Sin has lost its hold on you!
Galatians 5:16 “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
So we are not antinomian at all, we are just obeying the scripture by walking in the Spirit instead of by external codes.  This is where true freedom is experienced.
I hope you’ll be conscious of the indwelling life of God in you through faith in the Son.  Listen to His voice and walk in obedience to all He wants to do in and through you and you’ll experience freedom like never before.
I hope you’re having a great week.  I look forward to seeing you Sunday.
You are loved!
