Billy Averett

Deacon in Charge of Ushers, Greeters, Communion


Billy was born in Ft. Worth, Texas to parents who owned a cafe north of the Stock Yards.  His mother did all the cooking, Blue Plate Specials – meat and two veggies for  $.65 and homemade pies for $.20/slice.  His father was the chief chemist and Assistant Superintendent at Trinity Portola Cement Co. in Ft. Worth for 46 years.

When Billy was 13 they moved to a farm between Saginaw & Keller, TX.  He bought his own hay truck at 14, and hauled hay for three summers at $.07/bale from field to barn.  He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1961 with a degree in Animal Sciences.  He has raised horses, worked the rodeo,  worked on a large ranch, was a Meat Inspector, worked for New Holland Farm Equipment and worked for Justin Boot Company all over the US for 40 years.  He met lots of entertainers, T.V. and Movie stars and Rodeo Greats.

Billy met Anita Steves at Justin Boot Company where she worked as a National Credit Manager.  She married him in 1983.  Billy has three daughters.  Anita has three children -a son and daughter who have passed away – and daughter, Rhonda who is awaiting a second liver transplant.  They have nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

They moved to Boerne in 1993, living in Tapatio Springs for 20 years.  They now live in the Woods of Frederick’s Creek in Boerne proper.

Billy and Anita attended First Baptist Church, then started attending Faith Bible Church after it began.
