Deacon in Charge of Grounds and Maintenance
Don Huston was born in Pennsylvania but was raised by his grandparents in the Abilene, TX area. His grandparents took him to the First Baptist Church in Elmdale, TX and he was baptized at the age of 12 in Rucker’s Quarry. He attended Texas A & M on a scholarship until his Grandad had a heart attack and Don had to go back to the farm to help his Grandmother. He worked for West Texas Utilities until he moved to Houston to take a job with Dashiell Corporation where he worked for 37 years as Project Manager building high voltage electrical substations.
He and Alice married in 1985 and in their blended family they have three children, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Don’s happiest moments are when he is playing and entertaining the grandkids, or when he has a fishing rod in his hand standing in front of his boat looking for that big bass. For the past eight years Don has been active in the Comfort table either hauling food from the San Antonio Food Bank or more recently delivering food to over 40 shut-ins in the Comfort area. He knows each recipient’s name and even their dogs look forward to his visit.
