"The Power of Prayer" 2 Corinthians 1:11

As Kingdom people we've been granted the great privilege of prayer.  We are children of the King and so we have access to the throne of grace both in intercession for others and communion with God.  We don't pray to inform God but to seek what He would have us to do.  Prayer is a dialogue not a monologue where we do all the talking.  An important part of our prayer life is listening.

"Suffering & Comfort" 2 Corinthians 1:5-7

To be one with Christ is to have periods of suffering in life but we are never alone.  We have the promise of His presence with us at all times.  To desire to live godly is to suffer with our rejected Messiah.  He is the God of all comfort and when we have been through trials we are able to comfort others who are going through trials.  In the challenges of life don't focus on your circumstances but on your Christ.  He will sustain you.

"Sacrifices of Praise" Hebrews 13:14-17

We are being given some final instructions and reminders in chapter 13 of Hebrews.  We are to remember that we are citizens of an eternal city with a new kingdom and King to direct our lives during our temporary residency while on this earth.  When we focus on all He has done for us it can't help but produce sacrifices of praise to Him who has accomplish all on our behalf.  As Christ ones we need to be ready to help others in need with the resources God has entrusted to our care.

TEACHINGS

"Sanctified Outside The Camp" Hebrews 13:10-13

The Tabernacle was situated outside the camp of Israel so that if someone wanted to make sacrifice or meet God they had to go outside the camp.  In the Old Covenant it was impossible to be one with God but in the New Covenant we are in Him through faith in His perfect sacrifice.  Jesus was taken outside the gates and gave His life a sacrifice that we who receive Him are sanctified in Him.  We believers as Christ ones need to be prepared to leave our own comfort zone to engage a dark world with the love and life of Jesus the Christ.

TEACHINGS

"A Never Changing Jesus" Hebrews 13:7-9

The Gospel is Good News because the foundation is Christ.  It's not about any of our successes or failures but His perfect sacrifice on our behalf.  We have to be discerning of false teachers and their false gospel that puts the focus on the Christian.  Our security is not found how well we perform but the fact of His immutability.  He never changes.  He chose you to be His beloved child and He will never change how He feels about you.

TEACHINGS

"Learning Contentment" Hebrews 13:5-6

Contentment is not something we are born with but we do need to learn it in order to be free the covetousness and love of money the world tells us is normal.  We belong to Christ and all we have belongs to Him.  It really isn't the possessions we are stewards over but when money and things begin to possess us and give us a false sense of sufficiency.  It has its foundation in the promise that He will always be with us.  Since God is for us, we don't have to fear man.

"Mt Zion" Hebrews 12:22-25

The book of Hebrews describes two very different Mountains with two very different covenants.  Mt. Sinai was a very scary place for the people because it was a Law Covenant and required perfection with God as the judge.  Mt. Zion or Jerusalem the place of Christ suffering, death and resurrection was a New covenant where all who believe in Him receive all He is and has done as Savior inviting each of us into relationship with our Abba Father.

Mt Sanai is a picture of the God's absolute holiness.  Moses developed a relationship with God and he not fear as the people who didn't hunger for relationship.  The people couldn't shake their slave mentality and told Moses to bring them the message and they would obey.  The Law commanded them to obey but couldn't empower obedience.  When we desire relationship obedience isn't a burden.

TEACHINGS

"The Root of Bitterness" Hebrews 12:15-17

We are told to diligent in making sure that all mankind hear and receive the grace of God.  Grace is more than God giving us something we could never deserve.  Grace is a person, Jesus.  We don't have to have an answer to every question we just witness of what the Lord has done for us.  Grace is to be growing in our lives so that we act and speak more and more like Jesus.  Jesus, Grace, is what brings us complete forgiveness.  We are called to forgive as we are forgiven and this is the antidote for all bitterness.  Bitterness is like a root the bores into the soul and crushes it and defiles so many.

TEACHINGS

"By Faith Moses" Hebrews 11:23-29

Moses life is a beautiful picture of faith working the impossible for God's people.  His parents didn't fear Pharaoh because they had a higher authority.  At 40 Moses chose to identify with Israel and left the riches of the temple to deliver his people.  He was confident they would know he was chosen to deliver them.  In fact things didn't go as he planed and he ran for his life and spent 40 years in exile.  Now at the age of 80 he's called by God to deliver Israel and he had lost all of his self-confidence.  He comes to know God in great intimacy and his faith is demonstrated in his obeying God in difficult circumstances.

TEACHINGS

"By Faith Abraham & Sarah" Hebrews 11:8-13

The story of Abraham and Sarah is a beautiful picture of the faith walk.  Think of the great privilege you and I have been given to walk with God.  To hear His voice and obey.  It is just a heart given over to our King and recognize that we are only temporary residents here and waiting to be in presence of the Godhead.  Abraham and Sarah did not have perfect walk with God.  There were times in the journey that they didn't trust God but try to remember faith finds its source in God's faithfulness not ours.

TEACHINGS

"Noah's Faith" Hebrews 11:7

Noah demonstrates faith through his walk with God.  He understood the will of God to build an ark even though he had never seen it rain or experienced any kind of flood.  He walked with God and the response was to obey God even while being mocked by an evil generation.  Faith always has it's source in God.  Each of us have the same privilege to walk with God, hear His voice and obey.

"By Faith Abel" Hebrews 11:4

God ordained a time and place for Adam and his descendants to bring offerings and what those offerings should be.  While Abel brought an offering which included the shedding of blood Cain brought what he wanted and not what God directed.  Our offerings are to be centered on what pleases God and not what pleases self.  Cain represents the great many people who don't mind worshipping God as long as it is on their own terms.

"Vengeance is Mine" Hebrews 10:26-31

The author of Hebrews is reminding those who had come alongside and supported the faithful disciples that there was to turning back because there is no substitute for the one time perfect sacrifice of Jesus.  To reject Jesus as the Messiah was to remain in their sin and under judgment.  God alone is the judge.  It isn't that He's looking for someone to punish.  He sent His only begotten Son to offer forgiveness and eternal life to all.  There are tragic consequences for those who reject Him.

The Gospel is far more than a ticket to heaven; it is an invitation to be in relationship with our creator.  The perfect, one-time sacrifice of Jesus gives us direct access to the Father.  We have a oneness with Him so that as we find life in Him and He lives in us we are His temple.  So, we have absolute confidence to walk in an intimate relationship with Him.  This is all a gift of His grace.  It is no longer about us, what we do or don't do but His shed blood on the cross in which we become the beloved children of God and fully accepted.  All the barriers to intimacy with the Lord have been removed by His sacrifice and He is our great High Priest, having cleansed us and made us pure.

"Sacrifices that Can't Perfect" Hebrews 9:1-10

The sacrifices of the Old Testament were a temporary covering for sins of ignorance.  The holy place was sealed off from the public and the priest but on the day of atonement the high priest would make a sacrifice for himself and then for the people.  Our High Priest had no sin of His own and offered Himself to completely cleanse us from sin.

TEACHINGS

"The New Covenant Part 2" Hebrews 8:8-13

The New Covenant is established by Jesus' perfect sacrifice.  He takes our faithfulness our of the equation and promises to do all to give us security as His beloved children.  The Mosaic covenant was faulty in that it depended on their obedience.  The New Covenant comes and shows us that it is no longer an external list but an internal relationship with our creator.  We inherit the promises of Abraham through faith.

TEACHINGS

"The New Covenant" Hebrews 8:1-7

Understanding the New Covenant is essential to experiencing peace and freedom in the Christian life.  You can't blend the two covenants.  To live under the covenant of Moses is to be under a curse and to be under the New Covenant is the freedom and empowerment to live for the king and His kingdom.  There is no longer any list of demands to seek acceptance or righteousness with God.  The New Covenant is to entrust ourselves to Jesus and His perfect sacrifice as our perfect High-Priest.  There is nothing to add to perfect!  We have everything we will ever need and now we get to live in a responsive relationship with Christ who died for us and as us so He could live in us and express His life through us.  We are free from being consumer and now as the very temple of the Lord recognize we are not our own.

"The Law Makes Nothing Perfect" Hebrews 7:15-19

The purpose of the Law was not to make us righteous but to show all of humanity their guilt and need for a Savior. Jesus comes as a new kind of priest which does away with the old through His one time, perfect sacrifice.

TEACHINGS

"Perfection Attained" Hebrews 7:11-14

The Levitical priesthood could not give mankind what we all needed, to be totally forgiven and made whole. The Law demanded perfection but could not empower us to be perfect. To be perfect is to be made whole or complete and this is a gift we receive from Jesus who was not of the tribe of Levi but Judah. So, Jesus is a priest after the type of Melchizedek. He had a perfect priesthood, with a perfect offering that brings us completeness and wholeness.

TEACHINGS

"Abraham and Melchizedek"

Melchizedek was a superior priest to the descendants of Aaron as evidence of Abraham paying him a tithe from the spoils of war. Melchizedek blessed Abraham. Our giving should be a reflection of our honor of God and done with joy as everything we have belongs to Him,. He has made us to be a royal priesthood that we can go directly to God and are free to bless others.
